FIELD NOTE 07 / TROUBLESHOOTING

Car Park Capital Protests Guide

Find the disruption, check the available response, and distinguish clearing today’s protest from controlling the unrest behind the next one.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Open the protest notification, identify the blocked business and check that an available riot-police response reaches it. Review expansion-related unrest separately. Plastic trees target tree-related unrest; they are not an established cure for every source of opposition. EA 1.0.1 added response-vehicle locate buttons and fixed a riot-truck unassignment freeze.

1. Identify what the protest is blocking

The developer describes protesters blocking drive-thrus and influencing other residents’ opinions about cars. In the reviewed gameplay captions, a protester blocks a business while the creator is expanding it. This is a specific interruption to inspect, rather than a reason to rebuild every road or factory.

  1. Open the protest notification or select the affected protester.
  2. Identify the business, entrance or area involved.
  3. Check whether the business is unavailable because of the protest or whether vehicles are merely queuing nearby.
  4. Note your Civil Unrest level and recent construction changes.
  5. Save a checkpoint before changing the response setup.

If no protest is present and cars are stuck at a connection, use the traffic and exit checks. A route failure and an active blockade need different investigations.

2. Respond with riot police and verify the result

The official development notes confirm sending trucks of riot-police units to confront protesters. The gameplay recording shows the creator building the response facility, creating units and issuing a response. Watch the deployment rather than assuming that placing the building resolves the incident.

  1. Check availability. Inspect the response building, its vehicle and the units available for the task.
  2. Issue the response. Use the protest’s available dispatch controls in your current build.
  3. Follow arrival. Check whether the truck reaches the incident and whether units begin responding.
  4. Inspect progress. If the response stalls, inspect the selected vehicle and incident rather than ordering every unit repeatedly.
  5. Verify recovery. Confirm the protest resolves and the business can operate again; prepare the response for another incident.

This is an observation checklist, not an exact button-by-button promise for every build. We have not verified an optimal police/dog ratio, automatic patrol coverage for every type of protest or a universal response time.

3. Check EA 1.0.1 before diagnosing a freeze

The official October 16 changelog lists two relevant changes: locate buttons for riot police, tow trucks and fire engines at the top of the HUD, and a fix for a freeze caused by unassigning a riot truck from a protest.

Use the locate controls to find a response vehicle when available. If your game freezes around a changed protest assignment, compare your installed version with EA 1.0.1 before treating it as the same unresolved issue. The patch describes one trigger; it does not establish that every police or pathfinding problem is fixed.

For an unresolved report, record the game version, scenario, protest location, response assignment and the last action before the failure. Keep the affected save. Distinguish a whole-game freeze from a vehicle that stops while the simulation continues.

4. Separate protest response from unrest prevention

The official protest devlog links opposition to neighborhood demolition, tree removal, asphalt expansion and oil drilling. A later devlog specifically identifies plastic trees as a way to reduce the unrest associated with cutting down trees and pollution killing trees.

Expansion changeWhat to inspectPlanning response
Demolishing or clearing a neighborhood.Recent unrest and nearby protest alerts.Stage expansion so you can respond before repeating it.
Adding oil or industrial infrastructure.Affected trees, surrounding activity and delivery routes.Compare the site’s disruption with transport distance.
Trees die around pollution.Whether tree loss contributes to unrest.Inspect the plastic-tree option when unlocked.

The planning column is our suggested way to compare decisions. It does not supply hidden formulas or guarantee that unrest falls simply by waiting. Read the current meter and incident state after each intervention.

5. What plastic trees can and cannot establish

Plastic trees have a specific role in the developer’s description: mitigating tree-related Civil Unrest. Check whether the option is unlocked and what the current placement or production controls require. The sources do not justify a claim that a single tree cancels every eviction, industry placement or protest.

When comparing this option, note the unrest reading and the recent tree loss, then observe the result of a limited change. If a drive-thru is already blocked, check that incident separately. Preventing future escalation and removing an existing obstruction are different outcomes.

Our reviewed sources do not establish a universal plastic-tree count, coverage radius or conversion rate. Avoid using a guessed number as a city-wide build target.

6. Handle large protests and conflicting community advice

Lago’s community guide reports small blockades above roughly 50% unrest and larger riots around 100%. Treat those figures as community observations from an Early Access build, not an official guarantee of when an event must spawn.

The same guide’s comments dispute its suggestion that only one riot occurs at a time. They also qualify automatic return behavior when a patrol is configured. Because these accounts conflict, inspect all active incident notifications and the actual location of each response vehicle.

Community reports describe fires and abandoned vehicles after larger incidents. If your scene has those symptoms, inspect the available fire and towing services separately from riot police; clearing protesters does not itself prove every damaged or abandoned car has been removed. EA 1.0.1’s HUD locate buttons can help find those services.

A commenter also reports unit trouble in multilevel garages. That is an attributed report, not a confirmed universal bug or a reason to abandon custom blueprints. Record the floor, access path and assignment if it occurs in your save.

Protest and unrest questions

Will more billboards stop a protest?

The official sources establish propaganda as an opinion tool and riot police as a protest response. They do not establish billboards as an instant way to remove a blockade. See the carbrainness guide for the separate needs and opinion system.

Do I need a particular police and dog ratio?

The community guide gives the author’s preferred crew, while explicitly expressing uncertainty about unit benefits. We do not present that preference as an optimal or required ratio.

Why does unrest return after police leave?

Check whether you resumed actions that generate unrest and whether another incident remains active. Dealing with one protest does not establish that the causes of later opposition have been removed.

What if the business is still not working?

Reinspect the incident and the business route. If the protest is cleared, check for remaining obstructions, traffic or a separate supply problem instead of assuming the police command failed.

For needs and price complaints, continue with the carbrainness, propaganda and fees guide. For an interrupted gasoline chain, use the fuel delivery checklist.
