Create a selection in the scenario editor, save its .cpbp file, and copy it into an existing parking-garage category under assets/blueprints. Restart and look under Blueprints → Place. This is a community workaround, linked by the developer on October 11.
Before you begin: which kind of save?
On October 11, developer hilkojj said custom blueprints in normal play were not officially supported yet and linked XtremeGamingLP’s guide. The procedure below follows that guide; it changes files in the installation folder.
| Item | What you are trying to keep | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Scenario save | The editable scene you are working in. | Returning to a project to change or extend it. |
| Blueprint save (.cpbp) | The region selected with the blueprint tool. | Reusing a particular structure. |
| Copied blueprint asset | A copy placed in a built-in category. | Trying the community method for normal play. |
Keep the editable scene and the original blueprint. If you want to revise the structure later, those are useful for different reasons.
1. Create the blueprint in the editor
- Choose New Game → Custom Scenarios → Create Custom Scenario.
- Name the scenario, then choose Launch Scenario Editor.
- Build the structure you want to reuse.
- Choose Blueprints → Create, select the region and save it with a recognizable filename.
- Save the scenario separately if you want to revisit the scene. Reopen it through Custom Scenarios → your saved scenario → Open in Scenario Editor.
For your first attempt, a recognizable small structure is easier to identify in a list than several similar large garages. Use a name you can also recognize in the file browser.
2. Find and copy the file
In Steam, use the game’s Manage → Browse local files option to locate its actual installation. The paths below are relative to that folder.
saves/blueprints/your-name.cpbpEXAMPLE DESTINATIONassets/blueprints/small_parking_garages/your-name.cpbpCopy the file into an existing category: small_parking_garages, medium_parking_garages or large_parking_garages. Keep the source file. The author reports that a newly invented category folder was not recognized.
The filename in the example is a placeholder for your own file, not a required filename. Use the existing folder names as shown by your installation; do not create a new folder just because your structure has a different theme.
3. Restart and place it
Restart the game, load the normal save and open Blueprints → Place. Look in the category where you copied the file.
Finding the entry and successfully placing the structure are two different checks. If the entry appears, the file-discovery part has progressed. If placement is blocked, inspect the intended build area next instead of repeatedly copying the same file.
In a separate recording of built-in blueprints, Orbital Potato encounters land ownership and an occupied tile while placing a garage. Those are useful checks for the destination area; that video does not demonstrate the custom-file method.
If the result is not what you expected
| Symptom | Check first | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| No .cpbp file where you expected it. | Did you save a blueprint selection, or only save the scenario? | Return to the scene and check the Blueprints → Create step. |
| File exists but the entry is absent. | Actual installation, existing category, exact extension and whether you restarted. | Compare the source and destination paths before making another copy. |
| Entry appears but placement fails. | Ownership and occupied tiles in the target area. | Inspect the placement area. File copying and layout validity are separate questions. |
| Entry vanished after an update. | Whether the copied asset still exists. | Consult the original guide and restore from your own backup if appropriate. Updates or verification can affect asset copies. |
| Opening the blueprint menu crashes. | Game version, whether built-in entries also fail, and recent changes. | Keep a copy of your work and report the smallest reproducible case. No confirmed fix is established here. |
A separate Steam user reported a blueprint-menu crash. That report does not demonstrate that this file-copy method caused it. Do not delete all of your scenarios or treat that report as a reason to assume every blueprint is corrupt.
Blueprint questions
Is this a Workshop download or a built-in import button?
No. This procedure copies a file into the installation’s blueprint assets. Its developer-linked status does not turn it into an officially supported import feature.
Can I move the original instead of keeping it?
Keep the original. A separate backup makes recovery and later edits easier, especially when an update or file verification affects the asset copy.
Does a large garage always work better?
These sources do not establish that. A blueprint saves rebuilding effort; its size does not prove good access, demand or traffic performance in the new location.
